EU citizens can enter Italy with a valid (or at longest since one year invalid) German passport or with a valid identity card. Children either have to be listed in the passport of their parents or they have to carry their own identity card. Children under 15 who travel alone should carry a declaration of consent of their parents which is certified by the police. For the entry of citizens from non EU countries a passport is necessary.
Personal luggage is duty-free, there are in force the following maximum quantities for the personal consumption: 1 l spirits, 2 l wine, beer, etc, 200 g tobacco (200 cigarettes or 50 cigars) and provisions for the journey for one day.
Holiday with the pet: cats and dogs have to be clearly identifiable – readable microchip or tattoo (till 2010). An EU pet passport with a valid rabies injection has to be carried along.
